dancing with disabilities a movement and performance workshop uniting movers of all abilities
DeAnna leads classes and workshops for movers of all abilities, abandoning the idea that individuals exist as either "able" or "disabled". Workshops encourage participants to create their own movement through guided tasks and culminate in a performance celebrating each individual's talents and capabilities.
DeAnna has taught "Dancing with Disabilities" seminars at TASH Conferences. TASH is the international association of people with disabilities, their family members, other advocates, and professionals fighting for a society in which inclusion of all people, is the norm. She has also consulted with VSA Massachusetts, designing new curriculum for arts integrated education to support learning and inclusion in Boston Public Schools. VSA is Massachusetts' go-to organization for training in how to provide opportunities for students with and without disabilities in the arts. DeAnna helped to create professional development curriculum for VSA's COOL Workshop, MOVING THE STANDARD: A Kinestetic Approach to Learning for Students of All Abilities. The COOL model creates classrooms where students and teachers have a Creative Outlook on Learning. Through the arts students have a variety of ways to experience academic content, express what they know, and engage in learning. The model engages students and teachers through the arts to transform schools into inclusive communities.
