"Horse Dancing requires that we become explorers, that we let the familiar become unfamiliar and become students and speakers of the inter-species language of movement and touch. I often tell the dancers to follow the horse. Horse dancing is about letting go of everything you think you know – letting go of The Plan. To dance with horses, we have to be open to what comes up and allow the dance that is unfolding in the moment lead us." -Paula Josa-Jones
a lifetime with horses
DeAnna Pellecchia is a principal dancer with Paula Josa-Jones / Performance Works and an original cast member of RIDE and the HORSES HELPING HORSES project. Descendant from a family of cowboys, DeAnna grew up handling horses and has been riding since she could walk. Since 2000 she has been dancing with horses and considers it one her life's greatest gifts. DeAnna has created and performed dozens of dances with equine dance partners who have taught her countless lessons about being a human. Performances include FLIGHT, PONY DANCES, ALL THE PRETTY HORSES, SCARLET and KRUMP, among others. She has had many teachers over the years, but most memorably -- the sweet, gentle Uther; the magnificent, powerful Regaliz`; the calm, unflappable Sanne; and the smart, soulful Pony, who as her master teacher has challenged and changed her in many ways.
