work with youth DeAnna is passionate about utilizing the power of dance to inspire, empower, and build connections. She has extensive experience working with movers of all ages and abilities; aims to empower dancers and non-dancers alike to tell their stories; and engages with the issues most important to them and their communities. She is passionate about giving audiences and students the tools they need to bring clarity and meaning to movement.
DeAnna's work with teens while in residence at URBANO Project in 2012 received recognition from President Obama’s Committee on Arts & Humanities as one of the top 50 exceptional youth programs in the U.S. for their work in presenting rich learning opportunities to young people in the field of arts. Her curriculum for creating collaborative performance projects with teenagers, designed with Ingrid Schatz, was chosen for publication in “Expanding Our Vision for the Arts in Education”, a special issue of Harvard’s Educational Review. DeAnna has also designed curriculum for arts integrated education in Boston Public Schools in consort with VSA Massachusetts. She developed curriculum for VSA's COOL Workshops; the COOL model engages students and teachers through the arts to transform schools into inclusive communities.
