bordering home directed and staged by DeAnna Pellecchia assisted by Rebecca Kirk created and performed by Patricia Bello and Kisaira Cabrera
Urbano Project’s “Contemporary Dance and Composition Workshop” led by teaching artist DeAnna Pellecchia, is a semester-long class focusing on dance and movement as a means of self-expression. BORDERING HOME is the final culmination of this semester-long exploration.
Urbano’s theme in 2010 was CROSSING BORDERS. BORDERING HOME asks the questions ‘What is home?’, ‘Where do we belong?’ and addresses how and why we inhabit specific spaces. All of the movement in the performance was created by Patricia and Kisaira. Through group discussions, improvisation, and partner exercises they learned how to research their own creative impetus, generate original movement and make personal choreographic choices. BORDERING HOME also incorporates the real time use of Listening Strategies, a philosophy and performance practice developed by composer Pauline Oliveros.
